Visiting Oslo in January? Here’s how to stay warm

If you’ve read my Oslo travel guide or seen the photo diary, you’ll know by now that visiting Oslo in January is an extremely cold, snowy affair. It is why the prices are so much lower, why there aren’t as many tourists flocking around and why you’ll get those beautiful low light sunsets all to yourself. But how do you cope on a city break in -16 degree weather?

A Snowy Boat Ride In Oslo – Fjord Sightseeing

As well as visiting the Vigeland Sculpture Park in the snow and cold, we couldn’t resist a boat ride either – because why not ride in the icy fjords in January? It seemed like a very reasonable thing to do. So, we booked a seat on a fjord sightseeing tour with Oslo’s Batservice, which leaves every day for a two hour trip from Oslo’s central harbour (and was surprisingly busy given the poor weather conditions).

A 3 Night Oslo City Break (or how to do a city break in snow)

Picture the scene. I hit upon a genius idea to buy my impossible-to-buy-for husband a city break for Christmas in November 2015. He wins, I win, and we get to go exploring together, creating a lifetime of memories that a selection box and some aftershave just couldn’t compete with. I turn to Skyscanner to check flights for a long weekend in late January and see that flights to Oslo on our dates are just £9.99. That’s right, less than a tenner each, each way for an Oslo city break.

Well, you’d just book it wouldn’t you?
