We should all of us, especially those of us who are mothers, be doing our best to ensure that our communities thrive. When we have strong communities, we always have access to help and support, no matter where we might be in life and what we are growing through. It’s sad then that so many of us put it off as something we can do later, when in many cases, later never comes.
It’s also a shame that there are too few people doing things for the community when it can be so much fun to do! Don’t believe us, check out these fun, GAL APPROVED, ways you could start giving back to your local community today:
Clean Up Your Local Park
Okay, so on the face of it, this doesn’t seem like it would be much fun, but if you get a group of your best gal pals together, and you make a day or it, packing a nice lunch, and perhaps a cocktail or two for when you’ve finished up, then you can have a surprisingly fun time out in the fresh air doing good work, making the local park more pleasant for you, your family and friends and the wider community.
Makeover a Local Community Building
If you love interior design and decorating is your thing, then why not follow the excellent example of Q Link’s Issa Asad, who recently made over a local school much to the delight of the children there. If you’re a mom, then revamping your child’s school is a great way to give back to the people who are educating your child.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be a school room that you makeover, it could be a local shelter or community hall that’s in need of a little work. Find a place that needs some TLC and which aligns with your values and you’ll have an amazing time working your magic on it.
Run a Fun Run
If you’re into your exercise, them running a fun run in aid of a local charity or community project is a really good way to give something back, and because it’s a fun run, there isn’t nearly as much pressure on you-you can just relax and enjoy it.
Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
You like shopping right? Well instead of going to those out of town mall strips or spending your hard earned money online, try to spend more cash in local businesses. By doing this, you’ll be putting money directly into your community and doing your bit to ensure that local stores and amenities stay open.
Do you volunteer in your community? How do you give back?
