I love travelling, but there’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed for ultimate comfort and to get a good night’s sleep! Getting the recommended 8 hours shut-eye a night isn’t always attainable when you’re on the road. From uncomfortable mattresses to noisy hotel room neighbours, light pouring in from curtains…Sometimes it’s difficult to relax in a new place, so making your hotel room cosy is a simple yet effective idea.
When we travel, we want to come home again with plenty of memories that we can look back on and smile; we want to fill albums, create a photo wall, and display canvases bursting with happy moments from our trip. But if we’re uncomfortable and unable to relax in our accommodation, then the only memories we’ll have are tired ones! Read on for 7 tips to make your hotel room comfortable.

Make it clean
Cleaning the hotel room you’ve just paid for might not seem ideal, but if you like to know that things have been done to your personal standards and take comfort knowing you’ve sanitised certain areas of the room, then go for it. Bring along your own sanitising wipes and give items such as switches and door handles, the TV remote and even the phone in the room a quick once over. No one wants to fall ill on holiday, so it makes sense to be a little cautious.
Bring your own pillow
I often find with hotel pillows they’re either too thin and lumpy or so bouncy and full you wake up with neck ache. Bringing your own pillow makes getting to sleep a little easier and you’ll feel comfortable snuggling up to an item that reminds you of home. You can also forget about allergies or how clean the pillowcase really is!
Bring your own towel
Depending on the rating of your hotel, you might not be getting the fluffy white towels you’re used to at home. Instead of drying yourself with a thin, coarse towel bring your own along. Perfect for that post-travel shower.
Don’t forget your favourite PJs
Shorts and t-shirt, dressing gown, nightshirt or some super-soft loungewear. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and cosy before you head to bed, make sure you have room for it in your suitcase.
Earplugs
Noise from the street, loud neighbours and people thundering up and down the corridor outside your room. Investing in a cheap pair of earplugs will help block out all this unwanted noise so you can enjoy a good night’s sleep.
A door stop
A small safety device such as a doorstop is a travel essential. Your hotel room door might be locked but investing in a small doorstop to place under the door will give you total peace of mind and make you feel more comfortable.
Bring plenty of snacks
Having your own little pantry available to you in your hotel room will make you feel comfortable and keep those hunger pangs at bay. Biscuits, crisps, protein bars, hot water soups, noodle dishes and cereal bars are ideal. Don’t forget to bring your own favourite hot beverage too!
