If you are starting to plan for your first post-covid holiday, then you are going to want to make sure that you do it right. Having a holiday is one of life’s best experiences, but you do need to make sure that you are going to approach it in a way which makes it as successful and enjoyable as possible. One of the most vital things to think about here is what you are going to need to pack in order to be ready for the trip. In this article, we are going to take a look at some of the essentials that you should try not to forget when you are packing for a trip, so that you know you are as prepared as possible for whatever might happen.

Money
Probably one of the most important things of all is money, as without that you are not going to achieve much. What’s more, as long as you have money with you it doesn’t matter too much if you lose other items, as you can hopefully replace them. That might not be true of sentimental items of course, but it is something which you are going to have to think about anyway. The important thing is working out how to keep your money secure, and there are many ways of doing this. One tip is to ensure that you keep a few different stashes of cash in different parts of your luggage, including on your person. Or you might want to think about just using a card, which is much less expensive than it used to be. It’s up to you, but make sure that you have enough money with you, otherwise you might land yourself in serious trouble.
Travel Documents
As well as your money, you are going to need to make sure that you have all of the relevant travel documents. There are a few things here that you will need to remember. The most important is probably the passport, of course, as it is your key to get there and to get home again. But you also need your tickets for the flight – which these days might just be on your smartphone app – and any booking details for your hotels which you should ideally print off or show on your phone. The problem with over-relying on your phone is that losing it can mean that you are causing yourself a lot more problems than if you had backup hard copies. So make sure that you do both, just in case.

Medical Items
The next most important thing is to make sure that you have everything you might need for medical purposes. There are some things which you might need which are specific to your situation, or which not everyone needs. You might have visual trouble, in which case remember to pack your circle glasses or reading glasses or whatever you might need. You might be asthmatic, meaning you’ll certainly want to remember to pack your inhaler and anything else you might have for the condition. Likewise, if you are on any regular pills that you can’t afford to miss, make sure that you have enough to see you through the holiday and a little further, just in case, and pack those safely too.
Then it’s just about ensuring that you have all of the more generic medical items, the most important being a small first aid kit, just in case. This should include: painkillers (but be wary of how many you can take with you on the plane and in the country you are visiting), plasters and band-aids, bandages, alcohol wipes or disinfectant, gauze, scissors (but again, be careful on the plane), and potentially a numbing cream too for burns and so on. Having these items will ensure that you feel much more ready to have your holiday, and ready to deal with whatever it might throw at you.

Clothing
When you are thinking about what clothing to pack, it’s likely that you are going to want to consider the weather and what likely changes of outfits you might need. It’s a good idea to look ahead and take a peek at the forecast, but also to plan for emergencies such as profound changes in weather if you can. You never know what could happen, so it’s important to think about this. You should make sure you have something for every occasion, but not so much that you are spoiled for choice, as that is space you could spend on something more important. It’s all about finding the right balance, and where that balance lies is ultimately up to you.
Books
Most people like to read on holiday, and you will want to make sure that you have allowed space for a few books. If you are a heavy reader, then a number of books to get through could be a good idea. You might prefer to take an ebook reader, as they are certainly more lightweight and take up much less space than many books, but it’s up to you. The most important book you need to take is a travel guide of the place you are visiting. These are hugely helpful even in the days of the internet, for they contain a lot of useful information you can’t easily always find online – and besides, it means you’ve got a resource if you find yourself without a viable internet connection, which still happens in many parts of the world. Having a travel book is going to ensure that you feel much more prepared, and that you are able to find your way around and navigate much more easily.
As long as you remember to pack all this, you should find that you feel much more prepared for your trip, no matter where it is that you might be heading to. That is going to mean that you are much more likely to enjoy yourself as well.
