When you’re planning a trip and deciding how to get to your destination, flights are the obvious choice. But if you want to save some money and be more eco-friendly, you might decide to get the train instead. Depending on where you are going, you may even opt for a boat. But what about the bus?

Buses are often overlooked as a travel option, even though they are the best choice in a lot of situations. These are just some of the reasons why you should consider travelling by bus on your next trip.
It’s Not A Flight
The main reason to use a bus is that it’s not a flight, and flights are the worst. The crowded airports, the uncomfortable seats, the annoying person behind you that keeps bumping your chair. On a long haul flight, you have to deal with all of that, plus the terrible food. Just check out this list of my worst flight experiences to get an idea of how awful flying can be. A bus, on the other hand, is much more comfortable than flying. You get a nicer seat, you usually have air conditioning and wifi, and there is usually plenty of space so you don’t have to deal with inconsiderate people invading your personal space like you often do on a flight.
It’s Cheaper
Everybody is looking for ways to save money on travel, and using the bus is one of the best ways to do it. Even long distance bus tickets are way cheaper than train tickets or flights. If there is a big group of you, you could even consider hiring your own charter bus. When calculating the cost to rent a bus, the price doesn’t change depending on how many people are travelling. So, if there are a lot of you, it’s incredibly cheap. Although the bus might take a bit longer, it’s the best option if you are travelling on a budget.
It’s Better For The Environment
Many travellers these days are concerned about their carbon emissions while travelling. Flights are the biggest issue and even though you can carbon offset them, that does mean paying out even more money. A bus, on the other hand, is a cheaper, more comfortable alternative that is also more eco-friendly. If looking after the environment is a big concern for you and you worry about the impact that travel has, you should definitely consider taking the bus next time.
No Airport Or Ferry Transfers
It’s the worst when you’ve been on a long flight or ferry journey and you finally arrive at your destination, excited to start exploring, but then remember that you still have another 2 hour transfer before you get where you’re going. The great thing about buses and coaches is that they don’t rely on an airport or a ferry port, so they can drop you right in the centre of the city.
People overlook buses because they do take a lot longer than other modes of transport. However, there are a lot of other great benefits, so you should definitely consider it next time you are planning a trip.
