Besides, you may not know where to start – which is totally understandable, as you would have tried to tackle it already, right? So, to help you get started, we’re going to take a look at some helpful tips to make it happen.
What is Travel Anxiety?
For starters, maybe you’re wondering whether you have travel anxiety or not. Essentially, it’s anytime that you get anxious when travelling. It could be to do with the travel itself, with feeling out of your comfort zone, issues with safety, or anything in between. But if you tend to feel anxious and panicky when you travel, or avoid it because of that, then it sounds like you may have this.
Why Do We Experience it?
There can be a number of reasons. Most of them will come down to us not feeling safe while we travel, for whatever reason. However, it’s safe to say that the recent pandemic has exacerbated this in some of us. Not being able to travel and being forced to stay home for so long definitely can bring this out in us. However, if you can learn that you are safe, you may find that you can start to overcome it.
How to Overcome it
There is no one-sized fits all answer to this, but the thing to note is that you can overcome it. Just like other anxiety disorders, it’s going to take some work. Sure, you can speak to your doctor about medication, but you may find that mindfulness can help you too. Trying to meditate, control your breathing, and bring yourself into the present moment is essential. So is taking steps to push yourself to travel more, so that the anxiety doesn’t win.
Planning the Perfect Bucket List
From here, you’re then going to want to make sure that you have the best bucket list to start working your way through. When you’re really excited about the places that you’re going to travel to, you may find that you are able to focus more on the excitement than the fear. This could be doing the Rocky Mountaineer, diving at the Great Barrier Reef, or even seeing the Eiffel Tower. Whatever it is, you’ll find that pulling together the perfect bucket list will help a little.
Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone with Travel
Ultimately, you’re going to need to step out of your comfort zone when you travel – but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Anxiety can be crushing – especially when it comes to traveling when you just want to be safe at home. But each little step that you take will help you. And before long, you’ll find that the anxiety does start to ease off. After all, the best way to tackle it is head on – and there’s no better way to do that than being in paradise!
