City breaks are the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into a completely new place without committing yourself for too long. Because time is precious, you cram plenty into a short space of time – visiting museums and attractions, touring all of the Instagrammable spots and eating and drinking like royalty every mealtime. Your legs will probably feel like dropping off at the end of it due to all the walking that you will inevitably end up doing.
However, the one thing that many of us do when going on a weekend city break is pack too much. You really don’t need to be taking your whole closet with you, and the less stuff you take, the quicker it is to get ready and get out in the mornings and do the important stuff! Here, we are going to share a few tips for packing for a weekend city break.

Check the weather
The weather is one thing that you can never control and can pretty much never guarantee, but checking out the forecast in advance will give you a much clearer idea of what to pack. Is a heatwave forecast? Pack those little shorts and tops, or those maxi dresses. Rain and chill? Maybe you’re going to want to double-check that you have got your jeans and coat!
Comfy shoes and a roomy bag
How many times have you packed multiple pairs of shoes and bags just to end up wearing the same pair and using the same bag for the duration of your trip? We bet it’s loads! As long as your shoes are comfortable – a pair of Converse or Vans are usually a good bet as they go with almost everything, and a slightly dressier pair for the evenings, you can throw the rest back in the cupboard. When it comes to your bag, a cross-body one is usually the best – and safest – option as it leaves you hands-free. Just make sure it is big enough to carry your cell phone, purse, camera and the other essentials!
Unpack
When you are only staying somewhere for a couple of nights, it can be tempting to leave everything in your case to avoid the hassle of packing and unpacking. Don’t! Unpack your toiletries, so you are not digging around for stuff when you need it, and hang up everything. This will save on things getting creased and squashed in your case.
Accessorize
Accessories are your friend when it comes to packing light. One pair of skinny jeans and a cami top can be transformed from daytime chic to evening glamour with the simple addition of a chunky bangle or a glitzy belt. Think lightweight scarves as well – perfect for adding a pop of colour to almost any outfit and tres chic for a European city break.
A weekend city break should be about seeing all the sights and experiencing a whole different culture, not worrying about what to pack. These tips will make it quick and straightforward – and leave plenty of space to bring back a few treats in your case.
