Greece is an ever-popular holiday destination for families, couples and friends alike. However, because the beautiful country has so much to offer, it can be tricky to decide exactly where you want to stay.
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, and with its diversity, cost efficiency and picturesque nature, we firmly believe it’s the best option for your next girly getaway. Still not convinced? Read on to find out why we think you should book those plane tickets.
Accommodation
One of the best things about Crete is its huge range of accommodation options.
To fully enhance your girl’s holiday, renting a private villa is the best option. This way, you will have your own pool, luxurious bedrooms and roomier living spaces to suit your entire group. You can have food and drinks in your outdoor area while you kick back and enjoy the glorious weather. Sounds like heaven!
Day Time Activities
Partly due to its size, Crete is steeped with scenery, history and culture, meaning there are plenty of things to explore.
For harmless fun, Acqua Plus Water Park is just a few minutes from Hersonissos, and it is the biggest water park on the island. If history and culture are more up your street, explore Chania and the old town of Heraklion.
Crete has a wide range of beautiful landscapes too. The most scenic of which include Balos Lagoon, Samaria Gorge and Spinalonga. Luckily, most beaches in Crete are gorgeous due to their famously turquoise waters.
Food
Of course, the Greeks are fairly unmatched when it comes to cuisine. You won’t be consuming heavy fried food too, simply fresh Greek salads and tasty Gyros.
You could even push the boat out further by trying some new dishes. Some of our favourites include Dakos, Creten cheese and Gamopilafo, as they are all native to Crete, meaning they won’t be as delicious anywhere else!
Food tours are also a great option if you and your girls are big foodies. They are a great opportunity to experience authentic cuisine and get stuck in.
Nightlife
Let’s be honest – it wouldn’t be a girl’s holiday without partying until the sun goes down, so nightlife is an important thing to consider when booking your getaway. With Crete – you’re in luck! The island is famous for its vibrant club scene.
If you’re into a wilder scene, Malia and Stalis may be your best bet, however, you will likely be surrounded by fellow British tourists. If, understandably, this sounds like your idea of hell, we recommend either Chania or Rethymno for a more sophisticated evening.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Crete is a great all-round option if you are considering a trip to Greece. There is a wide range of options on where to stay, depending on how lively you like your holidays to be. And if you want to take some beautiful pictures, Crete has a plethora of charming landscapes that are sure to send your Instagram likes through the roof!
